A SPEECH DELIVERED BY CHIEF YOMI
OTUBELA FCMA TO CELEBRATE WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY HELD INSIDE THE AUDITORIUM OF THE
LAGOOZ SCHOOLS ON 5TH OF OCTOBER, 2016.
Permit me to congratulate you all on
the world teachers’ day, particularly, i wish to recognize your unparalleled efforts
in building our brand ‘LAGOOZ SCHOOLS’. This reminds me of our past years, when
we all toiled round to build this school to the position we are presently, I
must say from the depth of my heart, I appreciate you all and may the good Lord
reward your efforts with great success.
Let me borrow from the quote of Mark
Van Doren ‘’The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery’’ This quote
reechoes the importance of teachers to the society and the world at large and I
must also re-emphasise the fact that teaching is the only profession that
teaches all other professions and so my fellow teachers, count it all joy that
your profession is a service to the humanity and like a saying
from Henry Adams ‘’A teacher affects eternity, he can never tell where
his influence stops’’.
Over the years, Lagooz Schools brand
has grown in leaps and bounds and this success could not have been achieved
without your great inputs. I recall those years when we had to borrow suits
from each other to market Lagooz Schools under the harsh weather to the members
of the community. The inconvenience we have had to go through to build this
school and other sacrifices which cannot be quantified in Naira terms. I am
humbled by this.
Furthermore, I would also appreciate
your great sacrifice in staying after school hours to mould the lives of our
young ones in most cases serving as surrogate parents. Your efforts in
imparting knowledge through the modern means rather than resorting to the
traditional methods of caning cannot be easily ignored thank you for that.
On behalf of your students, I also
appreciate you for molding the lives of these young ones to become better
citizens of this nation and by extension, the world.
As parents, your efforts by standing in
the gap to build the lives of our children whenever we are not around are
extremely appreciated. We love you.
You have determined to stay with the
school despite the economic recession the country is going through and you have
even sacrificed to monitor the activities at the school hostel, and I must say, this sacrifice you have put
yourselves through for the sake of the survival of our hostel is very rare and it will continue to be
indelible in my mind.
To our YOF team, I appreciate your
sacrifice day and night and despite the fact that none of you had any previous
experience in the project, we could record some level of success in this. You
guys are great!
Lastly, to our supporting staff, I
also appreciate you because without your support, the system in the school cannot
stand. May God bless you real good.
