The time for the take off was 10:00 a.m. Thereafter, the P.

The MC
informed parents/guardians that the gathering was specifically for issues as
might be raised by P. T. A Executive Committee while school issues would be
referred to school officers after the meeting.
Mr. Mbalu, PTA
Executive member opened the discussion by expressly informing new parents that they were fully welcome into
Lagooz Schools and appreciated them for making Lagooz their choice school.
The minutes of
the PTA meeting held in March was read by Mrs. Adeoti, the General Secretary,
primary school. Just before the conclusion of the reading, the Proprietor
arrived and sat with the EXCO at the high table.
MATTERS ARISING
Mrs. Soyinka
talked about the announcement preventing discussing school matters. Then, she
appreciated the school for improving the rest room, that is, the toilet. She
also commented on the increment of school fees, and appealed that the school
should consider the parents/guardians based on the poor economic situation. She
also condemned flogging of students with such things as shoes, iron rod, among
others, adding that she was not against flogging but against the objects used.
The minutes
was adopted by Mrs. Braimoh and seconded by Mr. Mustapha. The Principal spoke
after this expressing her delight at having the parents respond to attendance.
She said that discussing school issues was not prohibited but that meeting
Lagooz officials downstairs would give room for thorough discussions concerning
the children. Having said this, she read through the activities for the rest of
the term including their dates starting with the Open Day and concluding with
Inter-house sports on 12th December, 2015, end-of – term activities
and funfair coming up on the closing date 17th December, 2015. Once
more, Mr. Mbalu rose to the floor to welcome the new parents, adding that they
would not regret having their children in Lagooz.

ISSUES FROM PARENTS
1.
Mrs.

2.
Mr.
Nfiaji was disappointed that WAEC results have not been released.
3.
Mrs.
Itua (a) School fees is too high (b)
Pupils should be well cleaned in the toilet
Mr. Umolu
complained about flogging and frowned at it. He also complained about Saturday
lesson saying that his children would not be attending Saturday lesson. Another
parent, Mrs. Owolabi complained about lateness of school buses and said drivers
should rise to the occasion. Next, a woman Mrs. Fayemi expressed discomfort
with the inability of the school to give students the books they paid for.
Again, she raised the issue of change of school uniform and asked for
clarification. Also, she commented on the Arabic class pointing out that those
using the school buses do not benefit from it. She said something should be
done about it.
Alhaji Abacha
expressed satisfaction with the improvements noticeable in Lagooz, especially
those in Nursery/Primary Schools but lamented the delay in the movement of
school buses. He complained against spanking a child and said the school
authorities should look into it.
Mr. Mustapha,
commented on who should increase school fees. On PTA projects, he would want to
know how the resources would be generated. Another woman commented on the
attitude of floor managers.
The PTA
chairman, Pastor Adeoti, reiterated the need for the staff appraisal and said
it has become expedient. All the same, he responded that the funds come from
school fees paid. Then, on who should increase school fees, he answered that it
is the full responsibility of the school authorities.
Proprietor
made his remarks at this juncture beginning with the issue of school fees. He
went into comparisons and analogies concerning who fixes school fees but in a
logical manner drew their attention to the fact that the school authorities,
parents and the needs of the moment determine school fees. He also frowned at a
situation where a resolved issue is further brought to the floor of the P. T.
A. , adding that only unresolved issues ought to be brought for general
discussion.
Answering
questions on withheld SSCE results, he said such issues should have been
discussed with him or at the management level instead of the P. T. A floor. On
the delay of school buses, he reminded them of the traffic situation in Lagos which should not be forgotten so soon stating
emphatically that no school bus returns later than 8 0’clock in the morning
after moving to various destinations within Lagos to pick students. He pointed out that
some parents would not even prepare the students, thus making the buses and the
drivers wait indefinitely.
Once more on
school fees, he said that school fees are fixed based on the economic situation
in the country and the running cost, and since he would not have the power in
the meantime to determine the economy, there would really be nothing anyone
could do. He pointed out that there are schools where payment is higher than
what Lagooz has. However, he promised that school fees would not be increased
for the next two years but that would not extend to newcomers yet. He therefore
enjoined those who did not understand school policy on school fees to see him.
On school
uniform, he said secondary school would have theirs at the beginning of
November while those in primary would have theirs second week of February,
2016. On the janitor, he expressed his embarrassment on this because the water
janitor is always available to students and pupils. On school books, he said
the complaining parents should wait behind for clarification. Commenting on
slapping, he said those involved should wait behind and give the names of
teachers involved. He emphasized that nobody would threaten students with flogging
because of Saturday lesson or non-payment of school fees.
The financial
report was presented by the chairman, Pastor Adeoti. He also announced P. T. A
e-mail address as: lagoozpta@yahoo.com.
The closing
prayer was by Mr. Ogunbewon.
