 GENERAL ELECTION OF PTA OFFICERS ON 1ST NOVEMBER 2014

The activity took off at 10:15am with Moslem and Christian prayers, National Anthem and School Anthem. After this, some students were handed over the coordination of the day’s activities. They were:

1.     OseniTaiwo

2.     OtejeFunmilayo

3.     SanwoTaofeekat.

Then, came the welcome address by Mr. G.N Nwaobianyi (Vice Principal - Academics). This was followed by Oteje’s speech introducing the Electoral Commission (P.T.A). This was followed by Mr. Lawal’s speech highlighting once more the modalities for the election and the necessity for the election proper. He also re-introduced the Electoral Commission which consisted of the following:

1.     Mr. Nfiaji.

2.     Dr. (Mrs) Olukuyide.

3.     Dr. (Mrs) Bello.

4.     Mrs Adeoti.

He then went ahead to state the rules guiding the casting of the votes and the offices to be elected for.

At this juncture, MrNfiaji read out the names of the potential candidates for the election. This was followed by the reading of candidates’ manifestoes in this order:

1.     Mrs OlufunkeOdumosu (unopposed)

2.     Mr. Adeoti

3.     Mrs Ani Alex

4.     Mr. Damian Mbalu

5.     Mr. BalogunAyodeji

After this, the election commenced.

PRIMARY SCHOOL: Total Number of Votes – 163

1.     Chairman: Mrs OlufunkeOdumosu – 158 votes.

2.     Vice Chairman: Mr. Damian Mbalu – 131 votes.

3.     Treasurer:Mr.BalogunAyodeji – 141 votes.

4.     PRO:Mr.OgunleyeTosin – 60 votes.

Mr. BabatundeAlaketu – 80 votes.

Thereafter, Mr. Segun Dele Davies addressed parents on “I care”Programme. He pointed out that education all over the world has two great goals. They are:

Ø     To help children become smart in education and excel in it.

Ø     To help children become good.

He said that Lagooz aims at the two goals above. He said that the spate of crime today is because some people have refused to build the character of their children. Still emphasizing his claim, he said that the school would certainly teach children character but that parents should also replicate this at home. Orally, he enumerated the twelve pillars of character. A video recording was shown to parents on “I care” programme. He assured parents that they would be receiving two forms at the end of each month.

SECONDARY SCHOOL: ELECTION

Chairman: Pastor (Mr.) Adeoti – 140 votes

Mrs Nzediegwu – Not present

Prince TayeOyekan – Vice Chairman

Treasurer: Mrs Olubanke – 125 votes

Mrs Ajidagba – Not Present

PRO: Pastor Salami

          Frank Umesie ESQ – 53 votes

AlhajiSalisu Mohammed – 95 votes.

 

HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME

Mr. Femi Duduyemi addressed the parents. He works with International Health Insurance Scheme. IHMS has been in existence since 2002.

Managecare is a way of taking care of your health without payment. It is a prepaid system that takes care of treatment at any hospital.

A little premium is paid to cover a year within which period the person will not pay for treatment throughout that year. Managecare has good standard and specialist hospitals. As a worker, the premium is deducted from the worker’s salary. The beneficiary can be admitted for 6 weeks without payment, so it is with the collection of drugs, ante-natal care, CS (Child is covered for 4 weeks without any payment).

The payment runs thus

Basic - N11,500

Standard – N15,000

Standard Plus – N25,000

Comprehensive – N75,000

 

 

MOBILE MONEY

It helps people do monetary transfer through phones. He gave practical demonstration of the transaction. It is a means of making financial transaction via your mobile phone.

 

ANNOUNCEMENT OF ELECTION RESULTS

The chairman of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Nfiaji announced the results of the election and the successful candidates were given certificates of merit.

 

PROPRIETOR’S ADDRESS

First, he allowed the PTA Chairman of the Primary and Secondary Schools to give their vote of thanks and they did so by thanking the parents for giving them the opportunity to serve.

Then, the Proprietor – Chief A.F. Otubela called for questions from parents. A parent with a child in Basic 5 commended Lagooz especially in their handling of Ebola and the provision of infrastructure.

Mr. Olowu AbdulAzeez was appreciative of the large turnout of parents to this occasion. A Barrister corrected an error he observed during the swearing in ceremony.

The training of parents on entrepreneurial skill will take place on 22nd of November, 2014 in Lagooz as announced by the chairperson Primary School (Mrs Odumosu). The time would be 10am. She added that parents could invite friends and can also be there in person. Pastor Adeoti told parents that a new dawn had started in Lagooz and asked for parents’ support.

The Proprietor commended women adding that parents should give their support and unalloyed loyalty to the new officers.

He appreciated those who arrived early.

The PTA Chairmen were then mandated to give out their awards for punctuality. The Proprietor also commented on the health scheme issue and encouraged parents to ensure participation in the Health Insurance.

He said that this would be a forum for parents to showcase what business we do, especially as a follow-up to the Entrepreneurial Skill so that we could patronize one another.

He thanked Parents / Guardians for coming.
