ESTABLISHMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS UNIT FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DIFFICULT

posted on 5/12/2018

Dear Estemed Parents,

The Lagooz schools management has come to recognise the importance of identifying and managing the potential of every pupil/ student as a necessary step for students to achieve their purpose in life.

In the same vein, educationists have identified the existence of individual differences in learners and as result; some students are either ?right brain? or ?left brain? thinkers. So, what works for one may not apply to others, it is now left for the school to identify what learning strategies will work best for each student.

Lagooz School therefore has decied to establish Special Education Needs unit within the school to serve the following purposes;

1              To assess and manage learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Asperger, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia, Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Attention Deficit Disorder,(ADD) Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome.

2              To identify and provide early interventions for children with learning difficulties

3              To monitor progress and keep records of those needing interventions

4              To undertake Teachers? training programmes on Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) approach for special needs children and also on the use of Pictures Exchange Communication System  (PECS)

Lagooz Special Education Needs unit will be handled by a team of internationally trained specialists on learning difficulties to identify, assess and manage students with learning challenges.

The Special Education Needs unit is planned to commence full operation within the school before the end of session  in 2019.

We shall keep the parents abreast of information with regard to the operations of the Special Education Needs Unit.

Thank you for your anticipated support.

Yours sincerely,                                                                                                                                                                                                Chief Yomi Otubela FCMA
